What is CBT-I?
Cognitive behavioural therapy for insomnia (CBT-I) is a drug-free therapy that is used to treat insomnia. It involves identifying and changing negative thoughts and behaviours related to sleep. This can include techniques such as sleep time scheduling, stimulus control, and relaxation training. CBT-I is the preferred treatment for chronic insomnia in adults according to the New England Journal of Medicine, the Lancet, the American Psychological Association and the American College of Physicians. The CBT-I program for adults is based on over three decades of research and clinical practice. It is a 6-week program involving five 30-45 minute treatment sessions and it can be done in person or online.
